Departure FromBaranello
The Giuseppe Barone Civic Museum, donated to the community of Baranello in 1897, is housed in an elegant period building designed by architect Barone. He donated both the building and his beautiful collection of antiques, located on the main street of this small village in the Biferno Valley.
The museum is organized into two rooms, showcasing 1816 items displayed in 28 wooden and glass display cases. The arrangement follows the antique tastes and museum concepts of the time.
It is, therefore, a museum of museums—a historically significant collection and a unique gem in Molise.
The collection includes, among other items, objects from ancient Egypt, which were highly sought after in the antique markets of Naples, Greek and Roman pottery, mostly from the Cuma necropolises and the Pompeii excavations, porcelain from important Italian, Chinese, and English manufacturers.
The small yet significant collection of paintings is almost entirely by artists of the so-called “Neapolitan school.”
