Archaeology and art in Baranello among the aromas of Molise's Tintilia

Beautiful town in the Biferno Valley, Baranello is known for being one of the first producers of Tintilia, the most important native grape variety of Molise.

The town is home to a unique museum, a historic collection of antiquities and art, which was donated to the municipality in 1897 by architect Barone, a refined collector from Baranello, and has remained unchanged to this day.

In the town, you can visit the magnificent neoclassical monumental fountain, the small Church of SS. Rosario, and the Church of San Michele Arcangelo.

A short distance away, the archaeological site of Monte Vairano, set within Bosco Faiete, is a must-see destination to discover one of the largest settlements of the Pentri Samnites.

Sannita Pentra City

Monte Vairano is an important archaeological site revealing a lost city of the Samnite Pentri. Excavations have uncovered structures, streets, and a powerful defensive wall, dating back to the 4th and 3rd centuries BC. The site, identified by some as ancient Aquilonia, offers a glimpse into a civilization that resisted Roman conquest. It's now a peaceful spot for nature walks and mushroom hunting.
