About Garden of the Apennine Flora

Located at an altitude of 1,525 meters in the picturesque municipality of Capracotta, the Giardino della Flora Appenninica (Garden of the Apennine Flora) spans over ten hectares and is a true treasure trove of biodiversity.

Founded in 1963 and symbolically represented by the Lobel’s Maple, it is one of the highest botanical gardens in Italy and boasts a vast array of plant species typical of the central-southern Apennines.

The garden hosts diverse habitats, including beech and silver fir forests, wetlands, and rocky landscapes, allowing visitors to explore fascinating natural scenery and discover rare and endemic plants.

It is also an active center for biodiversity conservation, with projects ranging from seed collection to the protection of endangered species.

A must-see attraction is the “Path of the Senses,” designed to make the garden accessible to people with motor and visual disabilities. Perfect for families, nature enthusiasts, and students, the Garden offers guided tours, educational trails, and spaces dedicated to the discovery of medicinal and high-altitude plants.

Open from April to October, it is the ideal place to reconnect with nature and explore the wonders of the Apennine flora. Don’t forget to wear comfortable shoes to discover every corner of this Molisan gem!
