About Janigro Festival

The Janigro Festival was created to bring back the artistic and spiritual legacy of a great musician to the places of origin of his family. Antonio Janigro is the cello in the world. Molise and Montagano are his roots.

However, having been born in Milan and having founded the chamber ensemble of the Zagreb Soloists – still existing today and of great international significance – very few people today remember that Antonio came from a family deeply rooted in Montagano since the end of the 15th century.

At the heart of the project is the power of music, which, as it did in the past by bringing the Janigro family to the world, today can bring the world to Montagano and Molise, triggering processes of revitalization of cultural heritage.

The events are set in various locations, each representing a different facet of a world that is mostly unknown to the general public: from the Savoia Theatre in Campobasso to the Faifoli Hermitage, from the Sepino archaeological site (where the first major event of this space’s new life as an autonomous archaeological park will take place) to the medieval village of Montagano.
