The Sannitico Museum in Campobasso is one of the most important archaeological museums in the region, both for the number and quality of artifacts on display.
For the Samnite period, it is the most significant reference point in Molise, thanks to the burial goods from the necropolises of Larino and Guglionesi, materials from the settlement of Montevairano, and finds from the most important Samnite-era sanctuaries, such as the one dedicated to Hercules in Campochiaro and the sanctuary of Mefite in San Pietro dei Cantoni.
For the Roman period, the museum houses artifacts from urban and rural contexts, including statues, oil lamps, coins, pottery of all kinds, jewelry, and amphorae, offering visitors a glimpse into the wealth and vibrancy of this area in ancient times.
A standout feature is the exhibition of burial goods from the early medieval necropolises of Campochiaro, famous for the significant number of warrior graves where knights were buried with their horses—one of which is fully displayed in the museum. The final rooms are dedicated to the more recent history of the region.
The museum frequently hosts cultural events and exhibitions.
