The Misteri of Campobasso are sacred representations carried through the streets of the city using large structures called ingegni.
Among the thirteen Mysteries, the most famous is the one dedicated to Saint Anthony Abbot, thanks to the striking scene that unfolds at his feet: the Devil locks eyes with the Maiden, making grimaces and shouting while smearing children and adults caught in the crowd with black.
The procession winds through a 3 km route in the city, the most moving part being the passage of these living paintings through the historic center, where the audience, the faithful, and the buildings seem to metaphorically embrace this tradition.
