Unspoiled nature, truffles, and excursions by bike, on foot, or on horseback

Small village in the greenery of Alto Molise, Carovilli is located in the MAB Reserve – Man and the Biosphere, UNESCO Heritage for biodiversity.

The territory of Carovilli is hilly, with altitudes ranging from 850 to 1,200 meters, offering a high-hill landscape of natural interest, with vast pastures and forest-covered elevations, mainly oaks and conifers. The village is located in a saddle between two mountains.

It is a land of truffles, cheese, and mushrooms, crossed by a small transhumance route connecting the Lucera-Castel di Sangro and Celano-Foggia tratturi. In addition to the main town, Carovilli is spread across hamlets such as Castiglione, Fontecurelli, Cerro Savino, and Vaglie.

It is an unmissable stop on the “Trans-Siberian of Italy.” Train journeys and excursions through the National Parks and Natural Reserves of Molise and Abruzzo allow visitors to discover the region’s natural and historical beauty.

The welcoming community of Carovilli invites you to explore the village of Castiglione, the charming “Chiesa Ammond,” and the traditional “Tresca” wheat threshing with horses.

From Carovilli’s town square, a staircase leads to the three crosses, up to the highest house in the village, with a small picnic area offering a wide panoramic view.

Other sights include the parish church of the Assumption and the church of San Nicola in the Castiglione area. From a gastronomic perspective, in addition to dairy products and cheeses, visitors can enjoy first courses featuring mushrooms and truffles.

The white truffle of Carovilli was already renowned in the 18th century, as evidenced by a festive menu preserved in the d’Alessandro Archive at the Pescolanciano castle.
