Between Street Art and the Angevin Castle
Civitacampomarano is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful villages in Molise, and therefore a must-visit during your trip.
A typically medieval village, as evidenced by the imposing Angevin Castle, which dominates the entire town and hosts an entirely contemporary festival every year: CVTà Street Fest.
This event, under the artistic direction of Alice Pasquini, has reshaped the entire landscape, with invited artists leaving their mark through street art and contextual art installations each year.
CVTà Street Fest is not only a street art event but a celebration of resilience and community, where international artists transform the village streets into open-air galleries, enriching the cultural and attraction heritage of Civitacampomarano.
The historic center of Civitacampomarano, adorned with the 15th-century Catalan-Aragonese style portal, offers a journey back in time through stables, towers, and the castle’s guard walkway, which has been expertly restored to preserve its historical grandeur. The presence of the calanchi, rocky formations designated as a Site of Community Interest, completes the picturesque panorama surrounding the village.
Famous for being the birthplace of intellectuals such as Vincenzo Cuoco and Gabriele Pepe, Civitacampomarano is also distinguished by its Napoleon-era cemetery, unique in southern Italy, and the ciell, exquisite traditional cookies that represent a true culinary art form of the area.
In summary, Civitacampomarano is an extraordinary example of how a small village can transform its challenges into opportunities, offering visitors a unique experience that blends millennia-old history, contemporary art, and authentic local cuisine in the heart of Molise.
